The Milk Making Minutes Season 1 Episode 4: A Breastfeeding Story with Kasondra: Breastfeeding, Formula Feeding and Twin Breastfeeding after Miscarriages and Mental and Physical Health Struggles

Kasondra (she/her) has delivered four babies which is why this episode is so long! She adapted her goals based on what worked for her, and what was best for her mental health at the time. She also experienced miscarriages and loss, which played into her decisions about feeding her babies. Having grown up with breastfeeding as the norm, she expected breastfeeding to just happen for her. Luckily, this is what happened with her first, but due to some medical complications, she was nutritionally depleted by the time she had her second, and after trying to breastfeed, made the decision to formula feed in order to preserve her mental health. By the time her twins were born, she was determined to breastfeed them, despite her care providers warning her to keep her expectations low. She worked very hard to make it happen, but she was able to exclusively breastfeed her twins! Listen to hear more about the impacts of miscarriage, the intersection of mental health and breastfeeding, and how every baby feeding experience truly can be different.
