The Milk Making Minutes Episode 6 Dealing with the Disappointment of Changing your Breastfeeding Plan with Danielle

Danielle is a mom of three girls who described herself as fairly crunchy. She assumed breastfeeding would just be apart of her baby feeding plan, as she intended to do things as naturally minded as possible. She knew the benefits of breastfeeding. She didn’t expect breastfeeding to be as challenging as it was. After the birth of her first, she quickly found herself formula feeding after struggling to breastfeed and not feeling supported. After the birth of her second, she had better prepared herself and had even changed providers in order to set herself up for success. Instead of the peaceful birth center birth she expected, she delivered by c-section with unfamiliar providers. Despite being better prepared, her own postpartum health concerns distracted her from seeking help quickly enough and she found herself exclusively pumping for several months until she finally weaned fully from the pump for her own mental health. By the birth of her third child, she wasn’t even sure she could handle the disappointment of attempting to breastfeed and not being able to, but she tried one last time. Despite rapid weight loss in her daughter which was caused by a lactose and soy intolerance, she was able get the breastfeeding experience she had always hoped for.
